Liz and Julia organized a team to race in the “Day of the Longboat” on Oct. 1 at Jericho Beach.
This is how UBC Rec advertises it: “Be a part of the largest voyageur canoe race in North America. Join the 250 10-person teams as they paddle like hell; traversing through a “one of kind” 2 km course that includes a beach start, a cone pickup, and 3 big turns.”
We have some great pictures from the event. We’ll be updating this post with the names of the team members, so come back soon and check it out!
Man, that looks like fun! Interested in doing it again next year? Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and check out UBC Rec’s site about the Day of the Longboat at UBC Rec
Well, after a bit of a bumpy start, SNCA finally got a table for Clubs Days this year, Sept. 20 – 22. Here are a few pictures of the table and some of our lovely club recruiters!
Oh, those Vikings! Toni, our Recording Secretary, flanked by David, our President and Liz, our Sports Rep
To be Scandinavian is to be “proper” (at least at first blush…). This is a good picture of the table. The letters were made by our first VP, Lisa Zetterberg. They look great!

STORYTELLING FOR ALL! Everyone who enjoys sharing stories, songs, poems, and good conversation is invited to come to The Scandinavian Community Centre, 6540 Thomas St. in Burnaby, on Sunday, January 21st, 2007. The gathering will be from
12 noon to 2pm or so. Light snacks will be served.
This is the first meeting of a Storytelling group, which hopes to get together several times throughout the year. Our aim is to share and exchange folklore, fairytales, stories of our heritage and ancestors, poetry, and music. We also hope to explore
story writing, events for young people, and maybe even some dramatic efforts! Of course we will offer many tales from Scandinavian lands, but we also will include the richness of all cultures.
So if this sounds good to you, don’t be shy! Come to tell a story or hear a story, read a poem you love, sing a song, or play an instrument; come to listen, make friends and enjoy good company. Don’t worry, this is not about being professional, this is about
gathering and sharing in an atmosphere of warmth and encouragement. We will sit as friends together at the kitchen table of Life, and gently share some treasures.
For more information, please feel welcome to contact Ingela at 778-329-7930 (telephone preferred), or Henry at 604-873-1934, or email Henry or Patricia, or phone Patricia at: 778 371 7023

Here is a recipe for making Lussekatter. They’re really easy to make, and they freeze well. Take them out of the freezer the day before you plan to serve them, and they’ll be thawed nicely!
