According to the 1991 census, 107,355 Greater Vancouver people claim at least some Scandinavian and Nordic ancestors. They represent 6.3 per cent of the 1.8 million residents of the Lower Mainland area.
An important recent development is that Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish groups, in the umbrella Scandinavian Community Centre Society, are leasing to purchase the 1.8 hectare Roald Amundsen Centre in Burnaby, and have approached the Danish and Icelandic-Canadian communities to join the society.
Scandinavian and local news is broadcast on the radio program Coffee Time, Scandinavian Style on CJVB, which broadcasts in Finnish, Danish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish. Scandinavian Journey, is a television variety program on the multicultural channel.
