Sun, Oct 8, 2:00pm – Documentary film “War Children” tells about 7 children who were sent back and forth between Finland & Sweden during the Winter & Continuation Wars, 1939 – 1944. The stories and recollections of the protagonists are both painfully moving and utterly heartwarming. Finnish with English subtitles. Admission by donation. Organized by the Canadian Friends of Finland.

Sun, Oct 22 – Nordic Literary Fest 9:30 a.m. Registration & coffee; festival 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. organized by the Scandinavian Cultural Society. 2006 is Henrik Ibsen Year in Norway & is being celebrated with over 4000 performances in 72 countries. Ibsen is the most frequently performed dramatist in the world after Shakespeare. The Literary fest will commemorate 100 yrs from the death of Henrik Ibsen with discussions on the influence of classic Norwegian literature and Norwegian immigrant literature on world literature.
Sat, Oct 28 – Octoberfest: doors at 7 p.m.; dance 8 p.m. to midnight. Join your Nordic friends – lift a jug & dance the night away to live Oompapa music. (oldtime & more modern music, request your favourites. Tickets $15 pp. includes bratwurst & sauerkraut later in the evening. Tickets from the office after Oct 1st.
